Google Doodle features Plains Apache beadwork for Native American Heritage Month
Traditional beadwork graces a special Google Doodle, signaling the commencement of Native American Heritage Month.
The tech giant brought to life this recognition by featuring ornaments crafted by the Plains Apache, which were fashioned between 1890 and 1909, adorning the two "O"s in the company's logo. These beautiful pieces belong to the collection housed at the National Museum of the American Indian. Furthermore, Google's official Instagram page showcased additional museum holdings, such as a silk sash created by the Coushatta in 1875 and a Kickapoo hair ornament from 1900, which incorporated cotton, silk, and glass beads. A post disseminated by Google (@google) noted that Native American Heritage Month takes place each November to honor the significant cultural and historical contributions of Indigenous populations across the United States. This month-long observance was established when President George H.W. Bush signed a resolution back in 1990.
