Russians told 'nuclear attack underway' after hackers hijack government app

2 (UPI) -- Russians received an emergency alert on their phones warning that nuclear warheads had been rolled out "at all regions" of the country after a government-issued mobile app was the target of "a massive cyberattack."

Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations said in an online post in the early hours of Monday that it was working to identify and plug the vulnerability after the app was "hit by a massive cyberattack, allowing perpetrators to send out fake information to the public" that warned of a supposed threat on Sunday night. The alert told app users there was a "risk of getting lively," saying that nuclear warheads had been rolled out "at all regions of Russia." Astra Press wrote on its Telegram account that the message said that the incoming warheads were being delivered by high-speed Ukrainian P1-SUN drones and urged Russians to stock up on food and take shelter in basements.
